Hospice Care: Avoid Minimum Compliance Companies

Social worker Tanya Shultz explains how Brighton Hospice looks at each patient individually to determine what care they truly need, not just what is mandated by Medicare.

Video Transcript:

Brighton is set apart from their competitors in several ways, but one of the ways I think that really helps and benefits our patients is our assessment of their level of hospice care. Medicare sets forward certain guidelines that pay for or reimburse certain levels of care, maybe a CNA coming to the home 3 times a week, but our company looks at the patient individually and says, “Is three days a week sufficient? Do we need to go in more? Let’s go in more,” and it’s not a question about just meeting the minimum guidelines provided by medicare. It’s a question about providing the best care that we can to our patients and making sure we take the extra steps. Brighton has amazing communication from our leadership all the way down to our CNAs, and it’s fast communication. This is probably one of the most efficient companies in terms of communication that I have worked for. In patient care and hospice care, things change quickly. To know that I can reach out to my nurse case manager, or my manager, or anybody in the company to get needs met, and have that turn around be so quick, is a relief to me and I’m sure it’s a relief to our patients and their families.
